“They decided to join, understanding the importance of strengthening the wall movement given the lack of a satisfactory proposal from the federal government, which did not offer an adjustment for this year at the negotiating table”, says a text released by the union.

Across Brazil, at least 66 federal universities and 72 Federal Institutes (IFs) were affected by the strike that began in early April. Ufes was contacted by the report and, in case of return, this text will be updated.

In addition to employees, university professors have also been on strike since April 15th. The demand is for a 22.71% adjustment, divided into three equal installments in 2024, 2025 and 2026. The federal government proposes zero adjustment for this year, and two adjustments of 4.5% in 2025 and 2026.

By note, Ufes announced that, due to the staff strike, the Central Library is closed for an indefinite period of time. The building’s facilities, including study spaces, are closed for use. Book returns and refunds can be made at the library reception from Monday to Friday, from 7am to 7pm.

“Users with borrowed books that expired during the period in which BC is closed will have their return deadlines extended until operations return to normal. Users who have already expired their return deadline will not suffer a daily increase in fines. No-nothing issues and payment of outstanding fines until the start of the suspension of operations, last Wednesday (8), can be done online”, informed the university.

Updates on the library’s operation will be provided via the BC website and the university’s media outlets. Questions and other requests can be sent to email [email protected].
