HOUSTON – Brazil is recognized globally for its significant production of oil and natural gas, with the state of Rio de Janeiro playing a fundamental role as a current and future hub in this energy scenario. Furthermore, the consolidation of new energy sources aimed at decarbonization, such as offshore wind and hydrogen, along with the expansion of Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technology, are intrinsically linked to the oil and gas market. . Existing skills in offshore operations, infrastructure development and the naval industry in Rio de Janeiro represent competitive advantages that can drive the development of these new industries. This is one of the highlights presented by the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan) during the OTC Houston 2024.

This is the ninth year that we have participated in OTC Houston and the partnership with APEX is very important. Rio stands out from the rest of the country, not only for being the main producing state, but also for its fantastic work in mapping opportunities, supporting technological development through the Firjan SENAI and SESI Institutes of Technology and Innovation.”, said the vice president of Firjan, Luiz Césio Caetano.

The document mentions that approximately 40% of potential investments mapped for the oil, gas, energy and naval markets are related to renewable energy. The projects already announced, such as offshore wind and hydrogen, which total around US$70 billion in investment, have the potential to generate more than 1 million jobs throughout their implementation over the next decade.

Meanwhile, the state of Sergipe is also present at this fair. With the aim of attracting new investments to the state, a delegation led by the State Secretariat for Economic Development and Science and Technology (Sedetec) participates in the event to speak with several influential personalities and institutions in the global energy sector.

With this in mind, the State is once again actively participating in today’s main offshore oil conference, engaging in dialogues with several professionals in the energy sector and seeking new business opportunities, aiming to further boost the development of Sergipe”, highlighted the Secretary of State for Economic Development and Science and Technology, Valmor Barbosa. The head of Sedetec represents the governor Fábio Mitidieri during the official trip.

The executive secretary of Sedetec, Marcelo Menezes, highlighted that Sergipe’s presence at OTC demonstrates the State Government’s vision for the segment. “State management has been implementing a solid policy for the oil and gas sector, committed to both structuring works and the construction of modern and bold legislation. Sergipe has been gaining prominence in Brazil and abroad, and arrives at the OTC as a promising and dynamic actor, which has an important bias in generating employment and income in its energy matrix.”, he assessed.
