Three of the seven dead in the accident with a travel bus that overturned on a curve, on BR-116, at KM 85, in Medina, in the Vale do Jequitinhonha region, have been identified.

Of the three, two are women. Maria Amanda Menezes Silva, 29 years old, from the city of Águas Belas, in Pernambuco, is one of them. The other fatal victim was Severina Gomes de Oliveira, born in Rio de Janeiro, aged 71, and Mauro Sergio da Silva, aged 43, from Capoeiras, in Pernambuco.

According to information from the Fire Department, at the scene of the accident, the driver was not located, but he may be among the victims and the military suspects that the vehicle is illegal, as no passenger list was found.

According to Sergeant Marcio Antônio, from the 3rd Platoon of Araçuaí, in the Jequitinhonha Valley, the bus was leaving Pernambuco headed for São Paulo. The military was called to the scene of the accident at around 8:20 p.m. with more than 30 injured victims and in serious condition, taken to hospitals in Medina and Itaobim, close to the region.

Four deaths were confirmed in BR, two in Itaobim hospital and one in Medina hospital. The highway was reopened around 3:30 in the morning. At the scene, forensic experts were called and are now investigating the causes of the accident.

Itatiaia contacted the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) and is awaiting feedback.
