SC reaches 80% homicide clearance rate and approaches European rate

Data released by the Santa Catarina Civil Police show that the State has reached a historic milestone when it comes to the percentage of homicides solved. As of Monday (22), 80% of homicide cases had been resolved, which demonstrates an increase in the institution’s productivity.

The analysis of statistical data was released by the Civil Police Intelligence Directorate this Wednesday (23) and considers the period from January 1st to April 22nd, 2024, compared to the same period 2023.

— Crimes happen and are not forgotten. They are being clarified. We intended to reach a target, in 2024, of 75 or 77%, which are the rates for Canada and Australia, but this percentage was reached last year — said PCSC general delegate, Ulisses Gabriel.

The strategic planning of the Santa Catarina police foresees the goal of reaching 89% of homicide crimes by 2026.

— England, for example, solves 80% (the same number that Santa Catarina has solved) which demonstrates a very firm performance of the security forces: Civil Police, Military Police, Scientific Police, Fire Department always integrated with the Public Ministry and the Judiciary — he highlighted.

The number of arrests in the act also increased

Among the data collected in the report, another piece of information stood out: the number of arrests in the act. There was an increase of 22% compared to 2023. According to the PC, in the last week the arrests in the act occurred mostly for drug trafficking crimes (63.89%), malicious reception (26.11%), association for traffic (19.44%) and tampering with vehicle identification signs (13.89%).

In 2024, 1,920 people have already been arrested in Santa Catarina on arrest warrants, an increase of 34.55% compared to last year. The increase in the execution of arrest warrants was 64.09%.

There was also an increase in the execution of search and seizure warrants, with 2,435 warrants served, 14% more than last year. The highlight goes to the Fraud Office (DD/DEIC), DIC of Blumenau and DPCo of Imbituba.
