On Saturday afternoon (30), the Ceará Military Police (PMCE) rescued a salamanta snake. The species belonging to the Epicrates family, a medium-sized snake, can reach up to 1.5 m in length, but has no venom. The snake has a long, thin body and a triangular head. Its predominant color is reddish-brown in background, with round or elongated spots on each side of the body. The skittish animal was located inside a residence in the municipality of Abaiara – Integrated Security Area 19 (AIS 19) of the State.

A composition from the PMCE’s Environmental Police Battalion (BPMA) was called to rescue a snake that had reportedly been found inside a residence. At the time, the animal was located in the backyard of the residence, located in the rural area of the municipality. The military police carried out a very careful rescue, as the snake was highly skittish.

After rescue, the snake was returned to its natural habitat, far from an inhabited environment.

Animal search and rescue prevention tips

Keep your distance and watch. Avoid approaching or interacting with the animal, as this can cause stress and aggressive behavior. Contact the Fire Department or BPMA when you see a wild animal in a risky situation or that could pose a danger to the community. They have teams trained to handle safe rescues. Avoid feeding wild animals, as this can encourage their presence in urban areas and can lead them to approach homes in search of food, causing conflicts and dangerous situations for both parties. Keep your environment safe. Check if your home has openings and cracks that could provide access for wild animals, such as snakes. Keep doors and windows tightly closed, especially in areas close to vacant lots or green areas. Raise community awareness: encourage your neighbors to adopt prevention practices and respect for animals, thus avoiding attitudes that could put both animals and residents at risk.
