According to MetrôRio, the ticket price is updated based on the variation in the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), which was 4.5%, between January 2023 and January 2024, as provided for in the contract. concession.

The concessionaire also informed that, this year, in addition to the inflationary variation, there is an increase of R$0.30 resulting from the end of the subsidy practiced between 2022 and 2024 by the state government.

The city of Rio has had the most expensive subway ticket in the country since 2023, when the ticket cost R$6.50.

At the time, the fare cost R$1 more than the second most expensive fare, charged in Brasília. In São Paulo, the largest city in the country, a subway ticket costs R$5.

Therefore, in a month with 22 working days, passengers who travel there and back every day will pay a total of R$330. Those who are entitled to the Social Tariff will pay R$5.60.
