Afrocidade, originally from Camaçari, Bahia, is a group that transcends conventional musical boundaries, proposing a sound that reverberates the influences of “current Africa and other possible Africas”. Deconstructing North American perspectives on music, the collective explores collectivity as a central element in their creative process.
Created by MCDO (Macedo) and composed of Eric Mazzone, Rafael Lima, Fernanda Maia, Marley Lima, Sulivan Nunes and Fal Silva, Afrocidade stands out for its contagious energy on stage. The most recent EP, “Afrocidade Na Pista”, captures the essence of live performances, fusing percussive references ranging from Timbalada to Fela Kuti.
Collectiveness and effervescent interaction with the public are fundamental for the group, and the pandemic did not stop them from recreating the atmosphere of live shows. Even though they were isolated, the members were able to come together safely, providing an authentic experience that translates into the EP’s five tracks.
Afrocidade defies musical conventions, creating a unique experience that combines the joy, smiles, dancing, jumping and sweat characteristic of their live performances. The Bahian group not only produces music, but builds moments of celebration and connection through their unique artistic expression.
