At this time of year, it is common for extra bills to accumulate on the expense spreadsheet, which increases the possibility of paying a bill twice. Aware of this scenario, Detran-MS (State Traffic Department of Mato Grosso do Sul) released this Saturday (3) guidelines for citizens who find themselves in this situation, especially after paying fines or fees.
The guidance is valid for cases in which the person has made double payment for a guide, or even when their appeal against a fine is provided by Jari (Administrative Board of Infraction Appeals) or by Cetran (State Traffic Council).
When identifying an undue payment, the citizen must go to a Detran-MS agency to file the reimbursement request. The Reimbursement Request can be obtained on the Meu Detran website, in the “Others and Forms” section, or requested at the agency where the request will be submitted.
In addition to justifying the reason for the request, it is necessary to attach personal documents, along with the duplicate payment slip and a copy of the payment receipt. If you do not have a bank account, you will need to complete an authorization to deposit into a third party account.
It is important to highlight that, although debts related to vehicles are linked to Detran, for some taxes, it may be necessary to file another request with the responsible body, as the amounts are passed on to the competent institution.
In situations of doubt, citizens can contact the Detran-MS ombudsman, who will offer guidance on how to file the Reimbursement Request.
The deadline for analyzing the request and returning the amounts varies from 30 to 60 days. In 2023, more than a thousand reimbursement processes were completed by Detran-MS, demonstrating the agency’s commitment to resolving these issues efficiently and quickly.
