Federal deputies from Mato Grosso do Sul spent R$2.023 million on advertisements between 2023 and the month of January this year. This year alone, R$127,100 were invested by parliamentarians from Mato Grosso do Sul to publicize their activities. The data are from CEAP (Quota for the Exercise of Parliamentary Activity).

It is worth mentioning that among all deputies, spending on this type of service is the highest. But of the eight, the one who used public funds the most during the period was Geraldo Resende (PSDB), with R$320,600 of the legislative quota – called “fluff” – used for advertising purposes. In January 2024, the expenditure was R$7 thousand.

Next, fellow toucan Beto Pereira (PSDB) spent R$303.8 thousand on publicizing his own activities, R$20.5 thousand this year. The same resource (fluff) can also be used for office rental, fuel, food, airline tickets and accommodation, among others.

Among federal parliamentarians, those who spent the least on advertising were Vander Loubet (PT), with R$212.5 thousand used and Luiz Ovando (PP) with R$212.8 thousand. This year alone, the use of fluff by each of them was R$13,900 and R$11,500, respectively.

According to data from Folha de São Paulo, which indicated a record in the use of public funds for advertising among federal deputies in 2023, the average among all parliamentarians was an expenditure of R$162 thousand throughout the year.

In addition to the fluff, deputies have other funds at their disposal, such as R$ 118 thousand per month to hire 5 to 25 advisors for Brasília and the state, and R$ 4,253.00 as housing allowance (for those who do not use functional apartments in the federal capital).
