Two men were arrested in the act, this Friday (2), illegally extracting sand in Jauá, in the city of Camaçari, in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador.
According to the Police, soldiers from the Environmental Protection Police Company (Coppa) were monitoring the region and received information that illegal sand extraction was taking place in an area of dunes.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found the suspects. A bucket truck and shovels were seized from them.
The duo and the seized vehicle were taken to the Federal Police, where the incident was registered.
Illegal sand extraction can constitute a crime against property, in the form of usurpation, when goods or raw materials belonging to the Union are produced or exploited, without legal authorization. The penalty is imprisonment for one to five years and a fine.
This is not the first time that environmental crime has been recorded there. On November 15, 2023, Coppa soldiers arrested five men caught illegally extracting sand. The situation also happened in Jauá.
