With a fee of R$1.3 million, the singer would perform in the city of Campo Alegre de Lourdes, which is experiencing financial problems
The Court of Bahia ordered on Friday (2.Feb.2024) the cancellation of a million-dollar show by singer Gusttavo Lima in the municipality of Campo Alegre de Lourdes, in the north of the state. The presentation was scheduled for February 9, the feast day of the city’s patron saint.
The legal action was filed by the MP-BA (Public Ministry of Bahia). According to the organization, the fee of R$1.3 million that would be paid to the artist represents more than the budget of the entire Municipal Department of Culture in 2023 and 2024. “Furthermore, the festival expresses public spending that is disproportionate to the municipality’s priority actions.”, he stated – read the full note (PDF – 178 kB).
The MP also said that Campo Alegre de Lourdes, which declared an emergency in September 2023, faces serious financial and structural problems.
In the decision, the judge classified “the high cost of putting on the show” as “disastrous given the financial and budgetary capacity of the municipality”. The city hall was prohibited from passing on any amount to Balada Eventos e Produções, which represents the artist.
Via social media, Campo Alegre de Lourdes City Hall reported that Gusttavo Lima’s show had been cancelled.
