The expectation is to increase efficiency, in different states of the Northeast Region, based on soil types and production systems
The city of Apodi, in Rio Grande do Norte, began on Friday (2.Feb.2024) an agricultural cooperation partnership with China to increase the productivity of family farming properties, with the launch of the Brazil-China Demonstration Unit of Cooperation in Agricultural Development.
The program involves testing 31 Chinese machines in MST (Landless Rural Workers Movement) settlements, cooperatives and family farming units. The expectation is that the introduction of the machinery will increase efficiency, in different states of the Northeast Region, based on the types of soil and production systems.
The agreement, reached between Brazilians and the Agricultural University of China, provides for a period of testing to identify the machinery items that adapt to day-to-day production in the national territory.
Of the 31 machines, 11 will be delivered to the MST in Rio Grande do Norte. The machinery will also be sent to Ceará, Maranhão and Paraíba, where efficiency tests will be carried out on different types of soil and production systems. The objective is that, in the future, the equipment will be produced in Brazil.
“The act is the result of Brazil’s strategic partnership with China to strengthen agricultural mechanization in family farming and in the areas of agrarian reform, contributing to the production of healthy food”said the MST.
According to the movement, the relationship between Brazilians and Chinese has been strengthening since 2022. The partnership has support from the International Association for Popular Cooperation (AICP), the Agricultural University of China, the Association of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers and the federal government, which offers financing from the Mais Alimentos program.
