In the early hours of this Saturday (3), a large fire hit a mattress factory in the Industrial District, east of Manaus. There were no records of victims.

The incident was triggered, according to the Amazonas Military Fire Department (CBMAM), at around 3:30 am.

To contain the flames, it was necessary to use eight vehicles and more than 60 thousand liters of water.

The general commander of CBMAM, Colonel Orleilso Muniz, said that the fire started in the lamination and foaming area of the mattress factory.

“The fire started in the lamination and foaming area and soon spread, due to the fact that foam is a highly combustible material. There was also the presence of chemical materials such as polyol and methylene chloride. The initial work was to isolate the fire in the area already affected, preventing it from spreading further. From isolation, the accident was controlled”, reported the general commander of CBMAM.

In order to combat new hidden fires or embers that could start another fire, the fire department team still remains on site carrying out the aftermath in an area of more than 3 thousand square meters.
