The driver of a truck, Vilmar José da Conceição, aged 62, died after the vehicle lost its brakes and fell into a bank. The accident happened on a farm located in the city of Brasilândia do Tocantins, in the north-central region of the state.
Firefighters were called to respond to the incident at 10am this Friday (2). Vilmar’s body was trapped in the wreckage and the rescue took around four hours. The truck was loaded with wood.
The ranch’s cowboy saw how the accident happened and told firefighters that the driver stopped on a hill and said the truck had no brakes. He had the truck turned off and was trying to put it in gear.
As he was unable to do so, he ended up going down the bank and stopped after traveling about 70 meters, over a swampy area.
The Rural Patrol was also at the scene and informed firefighters that the elderly man’s body was underneath the truck. According to the corporation, it was necessary to suspend the vehicle to recover Vilmar’s body.
Forensics were at the scene and the victim was taken to the region’s IML.
