O main river in the state of Roraimathe Branco River, reached, in the capital Boa Vista, the eighth lowest level in 57 yearssince the beginning of the historical series, which began in 1967.

According to monitoring by the Geological Survey of Brazil (SGB), this Friday (02), the station registered the 15 cm mark. The data is part of the 5th Hydrological Alert Bulletin.

In the same period, in 2023, the river was at a level of 2.31 m, at the Boa Vista station. O worst level ever recorded it was -56.5 cm, in January 2016, informed the SGB press office.

SGB ​​geosciences researcher Jussara Cury explains that the hydrological regime of the Rio Branco Basin differs from the others.

“In this season, the lowest temperatures occur in February. However, since 2023 the levels were already low and, with the drought, they reduced even further. According to our forecasts, the tendency is for the level of Rio Branco continues to descend in the coming weeks”, he explained.

In Caracaraí (RR), the level of the Rio Branco also reduced by an average of 2 cm per day. Despite this, it is within the normal range, at 83 cm.

At the Upper Rio Negro, the rivers are also in the process of descending, and the minimums are usually recorded in February. In São Gabriel da Cachoeira (AM), the Rio Negro started the week with drops of 15 cm. The current elevation at the station is 6.09 m.

In andTapuruquara station, there was an average daily drop of 6 cm, reaching the mark of 2.74 m. In Barcelona (AM), daily drops of 2 cm were recorded. The last level observed was 2.97 m.
