On February 1st, the Ministry of Health installed an Emergency Operations Center (COE) to monitor dengue cases in Acre. The announcement was made by Minister Nísia Trindade during the opening of the Tripartite Intermanagers Commission (CIT), in Brasília (DF), reinforcing that the action will be coordinated with states and municipalities.

With the activation of the COE, the Ministry of Health will expand monitoring of the situation, with an emphasis on dengue, to guide the execution of actions aimed at epidemiological, laboratory, care and vector control surveillance. Action planning and coordinated response will be carried out jointly with states and municipalities and in an interministerial manner.

“The message is one of national mobilization, of joining forces with states and municipalities. For a Brazil united against dengue. Since November, we have been taking a series of actions to monitor the progress of the disease. We have the SUS, with all its capillarity, the Community Health Agents and Agents to Combat Endemic Diseases. It is a government movement, but we also need the support of society”, highlighted Minister Nísia Trindade.

O Aedes aegypti It uses all types of containers capable of accumulating water to deposit its eggs. Some are known: disposable bottles and packaging, cans, plant pots, tires and plastics. But there are places that mosquitoes often use to breed and that are unknown to people. This is where the work of Agents to Combat Endemic Diseases (ACE) comes in. In Acre, 697 agents are active in the task force against dengue.

“These professionals who work on the front line to combat mosquitoes are trained and qualified to detect risks from vectors for their own residents and the community, guiding families and visiting homes one by one. Nobody wants their home to be a risky place. Therefore, it is important to open the doors to this protection service”, highlights the Secretary of Health and Environmental Surveillance, Ethel Maciel.

People with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, children under 2 years old and elderly people over 65 years old are more susceptible to complications from dengue, chikungunya and zika. If you have one of these profiles, you must take extra care to combat mosquitoes: keep the water tank tightly closed, store tires in covered places, clean the house gutters well, tie garbage bags well and do not accumulate rubbish, empty bottles PET, pots and vases, put sand in plant pots, and welcome health workers.

The symptoms of dengue, chikungunya or zika are similar. They include an abrupt onset of fever accompanied by headache, body and joint pain, prostration, weakness, pain behind the eyes, rash and itching on the skin, red spots on the body, as well as nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. The Ministry of Health’s guidance is for the population to seek the health service closest to their home as soon as the first symptoms appear.
