A state representative Teacher Janad Valcari (PL), obtained the approval of an innovative application in the Legislative Assembly of Tocantins (Aleto), which seeks to implement the “Tocantins Libras” program in the state. This revolutionary initiative aims to improve accessibility for deaf people in state agencies that offer in-person services.

“Tocantins Libras” allows servers to call Libras interpreters via video call, providing effective communication with citizens with hearing impairments. The proposal includes the creation of a Libras Center, where state employees will be trained to access the system and request assistance from a Libras interpreter at any time. This Center operates full-time, with a team of highly qualified interpreters, promoting a quick and efficient response to communication demands in Libras. “This program’s main objective is to intensify inclusion, eliminating communication barriers and facilitating access to public services for all people from Tocantins”, guaranteed Janad.

The expectation is that this pioneering proposal will serve as an example for other regions, promoting the appreciation of diversity and guaranteeing the rights of all citizens.
