In memes, on sports courts beach tennison the beaches, at parties and, now, also in carnival of Rio. In favor of cold drinks, you thermal cups are being adopted by revelers in the street blocks.

Until recently, the idea was inconceivable for some, either due to the high cost (they cost around R$ 200) or even due to a certain prejudice.

“Carioca native, I always used plastic or glass cups. I always had a lot of resistance with this type of glass, I thought it had nothing to do with it. But I realized that when I went out with friends and split the bill, I was at a disadvantage because the thermal cup is more than 500 ml”, says cultural producer Bianca Vales.

“I thought it was exaggerated because I didn’t see the logic in paying more than R$100 for a glass so the beer wouldn’t get hot,” says student Maria Clara Patané. “It was really hot and I went to try a beer in this glass. Twenty minutes later she was still crunching from the ice, I was converted”, jokes the young woman.

Thermal cups from brands like Stanley cost from R$165. In Saara, Rio’s largest shopping center, on every corner you can find a stall selling the beloved cups for up to R$20 – many, however, are counterfeit .

In addition to the cup, many people have used accessories to carry the cups. The cords range from the simplest, just to hang around the neck or shoulder, to more stylized models, such as tailored bags with zippers.

“As I am a reveler and a wader, I I started taking it to Carnival because it was more practical.. I felt out of place at first, I didn’t see so many people using it. But I will continue using it. Sometimes you buy a drink and within two minutes it’s hot”, reports Bianca.

A from Niteroi, Luana Brandão says she made fun of her friends who used the thermal cup a few years agobut on a New Year’s Eve trip he realized the benefits of always having a cold drink.

“For my birthday last year, my girlfriend gave me one as a gift and now I drink everything from it. If I’m at home, I drink water and coffee, because it keeps the coffee warm. At parties, barbecues, anywhere I I pour my drink. Now I’m going to test it at Carnival, I feel ready”, jokes the young woman.
