Governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior delivered this Friday (2) the works to double the BR-277 in Cascavel, in the west of the state. The renovation is the result of a total investment of R$77.6 million, the result of a partnership between Itaipu Binacional, which provided the resources, and the State Government, which carried out the work via the Department of Roads and Highways (DER).

Due to the large number of vehicles that pass through the stretch daily, the work was one of the most anticipated in the region. The road is the main access route to Cascavel and other municipalities in the west of the state. Furthermore, thousands of workers pass through the stretch at peak times to access companies located along the highway.

“This is a major project that will serve not only Cascavel, but all of Paraná, since a large part of the state’s production comes from the West region. It was a commitment that we made with the population, which will also benefit from safer infrastructure for city residents who pass through here, and which we are delivering today”, stated Governor Ratinho Junior.

The renovation also facilitates access to the Show Rural Coopavel, one of the largest agricultural fairs in Brazil. The 2024 edition takes place from Monday (5), and participants will now have a more agile and orderly circulation to reach the event, due to the works carried out. The organizers of the fair expect an audience of over 350 thousand people.

“This work shows the special view that this administration has for the city of Cascavel. We have already delivered Trevo Cataratas, the concrete duplication of Contorno Oeste, we recently announced resources for the bus terminal, among other investments”, said the governor.

“These are all strategic works that were prioritized by the State Government with the aim of serving the population, reducing distances and providing greater security for the people of Paraná who use our highways every day”, stated the Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Sandro Alex.

IMPROVEMENTS – 5.81 kilometers of highway were duplicated, from km 574.4 to km 580.2, between the Federal Highway Police station and Ferroeste. Two viaducts were also built in this section: one at km 575.1 and the other at km 580, where a new exit was also made for PR-180, which provides access to the Southwest region of the State.

“All trucks that carry loads to Ferroeste will now have a double corridor, anticipating the increase in harvests and demand for logistics in the region”, stated the regional superintendent of DER, Charlles Urbano Hostins Júnior.

In another section, closer to the urban region of Cascavel, the marginal road to the left of the runway was paved for a length of 1.56 kilometers, between km 581.7 and 583.3. This work helps to separate the traffic of vehicles that are just passing through Cascavel from the flow that needs to access companies that are located along the highway.

“Cascavel has been waiting for this doubling for 25 years. There are almost 30 thousand vehicles that pass through this stretch every day. It is a project with a great impact and that today we are happy to see completed”, said the mayor of Cascavel, Leonaldo Paranhos.

Furthermore, the works serve the productive sector throughout the West of the State, which transports its cargo via BR-277, heading to other regions of Paraná or the Port of Paranaguá. Every day, thousands of tons of grains and animal protein are transported along the stretch.
