Energy transition was the topic of the first meeting of the Northeast Consortium


On the agenda, the assessment of the potential of critical minerals for the energy transition in the states of Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará and Paraíba

With a focus on strengthening and integrating the management of the northeastern states, this Thursday morning (01/02), the Secretariat of Planning, Budget and Management (Seplan) and the Consórcio Nordeste began the discussions proposed by this management tool which values ​​the demands of each participating federative unit.

The acting secretary of Seplan, professor José Dionísio Gomes, and the coordinator of Mineral Resources Development, and the engineer Paulo Morais, represented the State Government of RN at the meeting that was mediated by the undersecretary of the Northeast Consortium Program, Giles Azevedo.

Representing the Governments of neighboring States, which also have potential in the area of ​​mineralogy, the executive secretary of Energy of Ceará, Joaquim Rolim; and the director of Mineral Resources and Hydrogeology at the Secretariat of Water Resources in Paraíba, Marcelo Falcão.

The discussion – which permeated the search for projects that could enable and initiate the activities intended by the Northeast Consortium – also included representatives from the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) and the Mineral Resources Research Company (CPRM), in the people from IFRN’s Pro-Rector of Research and Innovation, Avelino Lima Neto; the acting general director of the Mineral Technology Center – CT Mineral/IFRN, Rafael Hernandez Damascena dos Passos; the director of Planning and Business at CT Mineral/IFRN, Elias Nunes Filho; and senior research geologist at IFRN, Alexandre Magno Rocha. CPRM was represented by the head of the Natal Support Center of the Brazilian Geological Service – SGB/CPRM, Francisco de Assis Reis Barbosa; by the Geosciences researcher, Eugênio Pacelli Dantas; and by the geosciences researcher from the Geological Survey of Brazil, Vladimir Medeiros.

For José Dionísio Gomes, the meeting was very enlightening and positive. “These exchanges and communion of ideas are very important. This experience will certainly enhance the achievements and results that Seplan and the Government of RN will achieve through the Northeast Consortium. This was just the beginning of a sequence of meetings that we will discuss about the projects” concluded the acting secretary of Seplan.
