Endrick and Caio Paulista compete for the ball at Choque-Rei (Cesar Greco/Palmeiras)

This Sunday afternoon (04), São Paulo and Palmeiras face each other in the Brazilian Super Cup. Choque-Rei will decide the first champion of Brazilian football in 2024.

This duel pits the current champion of the Brasileirão against the champion of the last edition of the Copa do Brasil.

Last Palmeiras x São Paulo

The last time the two teams faced each other was a Palmeiras chocolate. The teams faced each other in October last year, at Allianz Parque, for the 29th round of the Brasileirão.

Then, Abel Ferreira’s team won 5-0, with goals from Breno Lopes (2), Piquerez (2) and Marcos Rocha.

At the time, Palmeiras were chasing Botafogo, who were leaders of the competition. SPFC, on the other hand, practically only fulfilled the schedule, as they had already won the Copa do Brasil.

That day, the Palm trees had: Weverton; Gustavo Gómez, Luan and Murilo; Mayke (Marcos Rocha), Zé Rafael, Richard Ríos (Fabinho), Raphael Veiga (Artur) and Piquerez; Breno Lopes (Luis Guilherme) and Endrick (Ron).

Already the SPFC was cast with: Rafael; Rafinha, Diego Costa, Beraldo and Caio Paulista; Gabriel Neves (Rodrigo Nestor), Alisson (Nathan), Michel Araújo and James Rodríguez (Jhegson Méndez); Lucas (Wellington Rato) and David (Luciano).

What changed in teams

If we look at the lineup, the team that changed the most, by far, was São Paulo. Palmeiras, for example, will not have the same lineup as that game because Endrick is not available. But, it remains in the cast.

Furthermore, all the starters remain in Verdão and, almost all of them, still as starters.

As for São Paulo, not even the coach is there anymore. Dorival Júnior led the team in the last meeting and today leads the Brazilian team.

Of the players, Beraldo, Caio Paulista, Gabriel Neves and David are no longer at the club. Caio Paulista, in fact, now plays for Palmeiras.

Calleri, who was injured, is Tricolor’s great hope for goals tomorrow. The steering duo should be composed of Luiz Gustavo (new reinforcement) and Pablo Maia, completely different from the last meeting between the teams.

Current moment of Palmeiras and SPFC

São Paulo is going through a great moment with coach Thiago Carpini. In the last match, they broke a fast and beat Corinthians for the first time at the Neo Química Arena.

At the beginning of the season, Tricolor started very well, with three wins and a draw, in four games played. There were seven goals scored and three conceded.

Palmeiras, on the other hand, has an almost identical start to that of its rival. There were also three wins and one draw, in four matches. Abel Ferreira’s team also won a classic (against Santos) and also scored seven goals, but conceded four.

Palmeiras and São Paulo face each other this Sunday (04), at 4pm, at Mineirão, in a single game. Whoever wins, keeps the cup. In case of a draw, the decision will be on penalties.
