In Palmas, homicide rates reached zero this month of January 2024. According to data from the Tocantins Public Security Secretariat (SSP/TO), in January 2023 there were 16 deaths and this is the first time since the year 2020, in which, in Palmas, there are no homicides during the entire period of one month.
In decline since July 2023, the reduction in crimes against life in the Capital reached 77% compared to the first six months of the same year, when the city had an increase in rates, as a result of the power struggle between criminal factions .

The significant reduction in crimes of this nature is a reflection of a series of actions carried out by public security forces in the Capital, supported by the Government of Tocantins. Among them the reinforcement of police personnel of the 1st Specialized Homicide and Personal Protection Division (DHPP – Palmas), the intensification of operations aimed at combating drug trafficking and the strengthening of Community Security Councils in the southern region of the city.
The Secretary of Public Security of Tocantins, Wlademir Mota Oliveira, celebrates the results and emphasizes the Civil Police’s commitment to continuing this work. “The drop in numbers is something we should celebrate, it’s good that people from Palma feel safe again. But we cannot let our guard down. The work of the Civil Police remains around the clock so that these crime rates remain low and so that the population, not only in Palmas, but throughout Tocantins, increasingly trusts the work carried out by the security forces”, highlights the secretary .
