The volume of road freight in Minas Gerais increased by 50.9% in the last quarter of 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year. This is what a survey carried out by the platform reveals online freight transport Frete.com.
For the CEO of Frete.com, Federico Vegathis advance was driven mainly by the transport of cement and fertilizers carried out in the State.
Meanwhile, the volume of freight registered throughout Brazil grew 17%. Between the months of October and December last year, more than 2.8 million shipments were published on the platform, compared to around 2.4 million in the same period in 2022.
Among the states, Mato Grosso had the highest increase in the volume of freight published in the last three months of 2023, with a positive variation of 79.1%.
“There are many products transported throughout Brazil, but we see that in certain regions some of them stand out. The large increase in Mato Grosso is due to soybean and corn freight, which had record harvests in 2023”, says Vega.
In the division by regions, the Center-West of the country was the one that advanced the most, with an increase of 35.5%, driven by the movement of agribusiness freight. Next comes the Southeast, the region where the states that move the most freight in Brazil are located, with growth of 19.8%.
Agribusiness stands out
The sector that contributed most to this positive result was agribusiness, which registered an increase of 21.4% in the fourth quarter of last year. This sector represents 34% of freight published on the platform. Among agribusiness products, soybeans, corn and fertilizers were the most prominent on the platform.
In the case of soybean freight, the increase was 132% in the period, representing 14% of agricultural freight in the country. The volume of corn freight increased 21.7%, representing 15% in the category; Fertilizer freight registered an increase of 22.2%, corresponding to 20% of agricultural freight in Brazil.
These results follow the estimates of the National Supply Company (Conab), which predicted a record for the grain harvest in 2023. The value achieved in 2023 is approximately 18% higher than that recorded in the previous year, with almost 50 million tons most registered.
Estimates were also records for soybeans and corn, with a 23% increase in oilseed production and 16% growth for corn. According to some analysts, the weather may have contributed to the result, with rain at the right time and more investment from producers.
“With the record estimates and productions taking place, it is natural that there will be a greater need to flow agricultural products in these last months of the year”, says Vega.
Freight volume in industry and civil construction
The industrialized products and civil construction sectors also stood out in the period, being the most representative on the Frete.com platform, after agribusiness.
Freight for industrialized products grew by 3.7% in the fourth quarter of 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year, and its representation was 25%.
The civil construction sector registered an increase of 55.9% and freight in the category represented 14% of those published on the platform during the period.
