Mato Grosso do Sul has more religious establishments than educational institutions. In comparison, there are 3 times more churches than schools in the state. This is what the new data from the 2022 Census released, this Friday (2), by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) show.

For the first time, IBGE mapped all the geographic coordinates and types of buildings that make up the 111 million addresses in Brazil registered during the research.

The Census understands religious establishments as churches, temples, synagogues and temples, for example, of all religions.

  • Religious establishments (churches, temples and others): 8,156;
  • Educational establishment (schools, daycare centers, universities): 2,648;
  • Health establishment (hospitals, clinics, emergency rooms): 3,709.

Main types of address in Brazil:

  • Private households (houses, apartments): 1.2 million
  • Establishments for other purposes (shops, public and cultural buildings): 165,107
  • Agricultural establishments: 76,139
  • Buildings under construction: 42,915
  • Religious establishments (churches and temples): 8,156
  • Educational establishment (schools, daycare centers, universities): 2,648
  • Health establishment (hospitals, clinics, emergency room): 3,709
  • Collective households (hotels, prisons, guesthouses, nursing homes): 3,109

According to IBGE, greater survey precision can be an important tool for urban planning and the creation of specific public policies.

It is possible, for example, to map households impacted by environmental phenomena such as floods, landslides, fires and droughts. Or count the services offered to the population according to demographic density.
