There are just a few days left until Carnival 2024 begins, but the previews are already exciting Pernambuco revelers. During this period, cases of harassment against women tend to increase and, with this in mind, the Brazilian Bar Association of Pernambuco created a booklet on the most common violence suffered by people of this gender during the festivities.
The booklet, entitled “My right is no joke”, also contains important information. For example, the difference between harassment and harassment. Sexual harassment is when someone performs a libidinous act without the victim’s permission.
The perpetrator of the crime can face between one and five years in prison. Sexual harassment occurs when there is embarrassment in order to obtain a sexual advantage in a position or role relationship. The penalty for those who commit this type of crime can range from one to two years in prison.

The booklet highlights that incidences of sexual violence increase by 20% during Carnival. Therefore, it is important to know the rights and protocol that can be followed if harassment occurs. A Novabrasil de Pernambuco received the vice-president of OAB-PE, Ingrid Zanella, in the studio, and she spoke about the importance of the complaint.
