The governor of Pernambuco, Raquel Lyra (PSDB), reacted to the verbal aggression suffered on Thursday, 1st, after participating in the reopening of work at Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco (Alepe). She claimed to be a victim of political violence, said that she suffers attacks because she is a woman and that she will not back down from political activity.

“I’m sorry because what happened is not up to Pernambuco. I won’t lower my head. All I would like is for us to be respected for the positions we hold and for the population to be able to judge us for the actions of our government,” she told Estadão Column.

As shown by Columnthe president of Alepe, Álvaro Porto (PSDB) criticized the governor’s speech with profanity, without realizing that the microphone audio was open: “And I understood nothing about her speech. She talked too much and didn’t say anything”.

On the day of the episode, Porto said he would not comment on the matter. After the wide repercussion of the case in the media and in view of the reaction of the PSDB, which is considering opening a case before the ethics commission, he released a statement, but without apologizing.

“The president of the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco, deputy Álvaro Porto, clarifies that he used an expression that is not consistent with the context and location when evaluating governor Raquel Lyra’s speech”, states the deputy’s advisor in the text.

He admits that he shouldn’t have used the swear word, but reinforces his criticism of Raquel’s speech and management. “He reaffirms that he considers the content of the speech to be disconnected from the reality experienced in Pernambuco. And he adds that his reaction is the result of indignation regarding the government’s lack of results on serious issues such as health and safety, for example”, says the text.
