Starting this Friday (2), the 16 community restaurants in the Federal District accept the Pix modality to pay for meals. Provided for in law No. 7,300/2023, recently regulated, the measure became valid for payment of all meals served in the units: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Having been a regular at the Estrutural Community Restaurant for five years, Ester Silva dos Santos, 38 years old, was satisfied. “Often, we don’t have money on hand and it’s difficult to get change for lunch. Now, it’s wonderful for us,” she celebrates. Ester is a street sweeper and has lunch from Monday to Saturday with her work colleagues at the Estrutural unit. “I only intend to use Pix from now on.”
Previously, payment for meals could only be made with cash. Some units also accepted debit cards. With Pix, citizens will have another option to access food in community restaurants.
“Payment via Pix is already part of the population’s daily lives because it facilitates payment for services. Even with affordable meals, for many families it is difficult to withdraw money before lunch, and it is also difficult to get change. This possibility of paying via Pix, in addition to bringing more comfort to our users, facilitates their access to food and nutritional security through healthy food served in restaurants”, highlights the Secretary of Social Development, Ana Paula Marra.
Under the new law, the outsourced companies that manage the restaurants, under the management of the Secretariat for Social Development (Headquarters), are responsible for making the new payment method viable in all units. To inform the population, signs were installed at the cashiers, indicating payment by Pix and the steps for using this modality.
“I arrived here and didn’t know I could pay with Pix. In fact, before coming, I ran back to exchange money so I could pay for lunch. I’m definitely going to take advantage of this, because it’s the rarest thing for me to have cash. It made it a lot easier”, emphasizes driver Cicero da Silva Pereira, 63 years old, also a regular at the Estrutural Community Restaurant.
