Agents are investigated for abusing a woman during a party in Guarujá; the identity of the accused was not disclosed

The São Paulo Police Ombudsman’s Office requested the removal of 11 military police officers who were allegedly involved in the gang rape of a 33-year-old woman in Guarujá (SP). The agency also asked the Police Internal Affairs Department to take charge of the investigation into the case.

According to the victim, the violence took place during a party, in August 2023. The complaint, however, was made in December of the same year. The identity of the accused was not disclosed.

According to the SSP-SP (São Paulo Public Security Secretariat), the investigation into what happened is under the responsibility of the Guarujá Women’s Police Station and remains confidential. The São Paulo Military Police opened an internal investigation to investigate the participation of the PMs in the crime.

In the request, the ombudsman also requests expert reports on the case, such as sexological and medical examinations carried out by the victim. The SSP-SP did not inform whether the agency’s request was fulfilled.

Here is the full note from the secretariat:

“The Civil Police is investigating the case of rape of a vulnerable person, reported by a 33-year-old woman, which occurred on August 10, 2023 in Guarujá. Sexological and medical examinations were requested for the victim. The case was registered by the victim at the 1st Police Station for the Defense of Women (DDM) in the capital of São Paulo on 12/12/23 and was forwarded to the DDM in Guarujá, which continues with the investigations. Given the seriousness of the complaint, the Military Police informs that it has opened an investigation to investigate the participation of military police officers in the crime.”
