President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has quite a challenge ahead of him. He will build more than 100 new federal institute campuses in the coming years. At least that’s what the chief minister of the federal government’s Communication Secretariat, Paulo Pimenta, guarantees.

In a post, made in the early evening of this Friday (2), on X/Twitter, Paulo Pimenta announced the new measure by the Lula government. “President Lula should soon announce the creation of 100 new campuses of federal institutes throughout Brazil,” he said.

Pimenta did not provide details of the program, that is, there is no time it will take to be done and there is also no information on which cities will receive the new campuses. Even so, the tendency is for all of them to be opened during the president’s current term, which ends in 2026.

Lula recently inaugurated an ITA (Aeronautical Technological Institute) campus in Ceará and at the time promised that he would take other federal institutes to the Northeast. During the PT’s four previous terms, two with Lula (2003 to 2010) and two with Dilma Rousseff (2011 to 2016), 360 units of federal institutes were created across Brazil.

During his term, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) inaugurated six new campuses of federal institutes, which shows Lula’s bold goal.
