The Minister of Human Rights, Silvio Almeida (photo), responded this Friday, 2nd, to the criticism he has received for his performance at the head of the department.

At breakfast with journalists, he denied putting himself in the victim’s place and said he was the “Minister of Human Rights of the conflict”.

“With me, if you come, you will come to face me. I don’t have any problem with that. Let’s go to the confrontation, I want to see. I have no problem with conflict. I am the Minister of Human Rights of the conflicthe stated.

Silvio Almeida also said he was the target of “a mixture of stupidity and racism” and compared himself to the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, for the shame of “academic”.

“Whoever invented this story made a mixture that is very common, right? It’s a mix of stupidity and racismhe stated.

“I have a triple formation. My background is in law, philosophy and economics. It is a very similar training — master’s degree, doctorate and post-doctorate in economics — to that of another minister, whose name is Fernando Haddad. My dear friend Fernando Haddad”he added.

“Why, for me, in my case, do my qualities become defects? Realize? I was a professor at Columbia University, I was a professor at Duke University, I was a professor at the Fundação Getulio Vargas School of Administration, I am a professor at the law school. Did you notice? But all of this, for me, becomes a problem. Why? Because I’m black”he completed.

Silvio Almeida’s frying in government

In July 2023, members of the Lula government criticized Silvio Almeida for carrying out the “Human Rights Caravan” in prisons and units of the socio-educational system without promoting political management with governors.

According to Sheetmembers of the Executive considered that the initiative could generate noise in a “sensitive topic”.

The announcement occurred amid discussions at Palácio do Planalto about the rearrangement of the Esplanada to house representatives of the PP and Republicans in government.

Human rights in their own right

Minister Silvio Almeida has been excellent in instrumentalizing human rights for his own causes.

Sponsored by lobbyist Walfrido Warde and influencer Felipe Neto, he goes to great lengths to defend dictatorships friendly to the Planalto, such as Cuba, and use human rights as a political weapon to attack his national enemies.

Silvio Almeida also does not criticize human rights abuses in China and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who ordered the invasion of Ukraine.
