At an event at the Volkswagen factory in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), the president said he received a “degraded” country

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Friday (2.Feb.2024) that Brazil was “dismantled” by his predecessor Jair Bolsonaro (PL). According to him, during an event at the Volkswagen factory in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), the situation was “very run down”.

“Brazil was in a very, very degraded situation. This country has not been governed for the last 4 years, this country has been dismantled. Because almost all the public policies that we had created from 2003 to 2015 were dismantled”he stated.

According to the PT member, he found around 10,000 works stopped when he took over the government in 2023, including 3,500 daycare centers.

Lula cried when speaking to factory employees and remembering when he was a metalworker and worked in the union.

“Never forget that a laborer, a metalworker, left the factory door to repair, left here to repair this country with the teachings I learned at the factory door. I am privileged because I didn’t have the chance that you will have to go to university”, he declared emotionally.

The president was at the factory to follow the announcement of the company’s new investments in Brazil.

The manufacturer announced on Thursday (Feb 1st) that it will increase its investments in the country by R$9 billion by 2028, totaling R$16 billion with the value already included in the current cycle, of R$7 billion. The company also reported that it will launch 16 vehicles in 4 years, including hybrid, 100% electric and “total flex”.
