Amazonas is expected to register 5,450 new cases of cancer this year. The estimate is from the National Cancer Institute (Inca), of the Ministry of Health (MS).
The types that should be more frequent in Amazonas in 2024 are those of the cervix, prostate and breast.
This Sunday, February 4th, is World Cancer Day, established to raise awareness among the population about preventing and combating the disease.
Adopting healthy lifestyle habits is essential in combating the disease. The alert comes from clinical oncologist Poliana Signorini (SINORINI), from the Amazonas State Oncology Control Center Foundation, FCecon, a reference in the north of the country.
Among the changes in lifestyle habits, the oncologist highlights the need to practice physical activity, avoid alcohol and tobacco and have a healthy diet.
Vaccinating girls and boys aged 9 to 14 against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) prevents the development of cancer of the cervix, penis, anus and oropharynx. There is also the vaccine against hepatitis B, which is important to prevent liver cancer.
Going to the doctor regularly is an important action for the population. Carrying out tests allows cancer to be diagnosed early, increasing the chances of a cure and less aggressive treatments.
