In a press conference this Friday morning (2), the Civil Police clarified details about the murder of businessman Márcio Elizeu Melo, aged 45, stabbed and killed at the behest of his own son, aged 18 in Indaial, in Vale from Itajaí. The incident happened at the family home, in the early hours of Monday (29), in the Estrada das Areias neighborhood.

In addition to the couple’s son, a friend of his was also temporarily arrested on suspicion of involvement in the brutal murder.
At the press conference, delegate Filipe Martins, alongside an Indaial Civil Police agent and the Blumenau Regional Police Delegate, Juliana Tridapalli, revealed that the other murder suspect received a proposal from the son who orchestrated his father’s execution .
The son worked in a small metallurgical factory that his parents owned in Indaial and did not accept being treated ‘as a mere employee’, in the words of the police chief. To date, this would be one of the reasons that the Civil Police believe led to the brutal death of the father and the attempted murder of the mother.
At least two months ago, the suspect confided that he was orchestrating his father’s murder to this friend. Hours before the crime, on Sunday night (28), the son left his parents’ house, purposely leaving a window in the house open.
On Sunday night (28), the son went to his friend’s house, changed his clothes, returned to the house, where he and his friend entered through a window. The suspects entered the house through a wooded area. Before entering, the son lost the knife with which he planned to kill his father.
Cameras helped identify the couple’s son, at which point he went to the kitchen, trying to cover his face with a shirt, to get another knife to carry out the murder inside the house. His way of walking was recognized by family members of Márcio’s son, in statements collected by the Civil Police.
The police discovered that the businessman’s son agreed with his friend that he would kill his own father and that the suspect’s friend would attack his mother.
However, the son did not expect that his father would hear the noise of people inside the house and leave the couple’s room. As he leaves the room, the father comes face to face with the suspect’s friend inside the house and the friend stabs Márcio in the neck.
Both get into a physical fight and Márcio loses his life. At the same time, the son goes to his mother and attacks her inside the room. The woman, interviewed by the police, did not know that her son was her attacker.
The woman tried to defend herself, but ended up being struck in the chest six to seven times. Then, the suspect’s friend advances towards her again and stabs her in the temple area, between the eye, ear and cheek.
The suspect’s father remained lying down and had no further reaction. Likewise, the woman remained unconscious in the property and the pair thought they were both dead. After that, they leave the house.
Subsequently, the Civil Police managed to search and seize the couple’s son’s cell phones and, summoned to give a statement, the main suspect gave contradictory versions.
Realizing that he would not be able to free himself from the responsibilities that he would face and the evidence that was against him, after two hours of interrogation, Márcio Elizeu Melo’s son confessed that he was the intellectual mastermind behind his father’s murder and that he participated in the action.
Death of businessman was the target of a ‘proposal’ from his son to a friend
When questioned, the businessman’s son’s friend told the police that he received an offer of R$50,000 and a family car, a Chevrolet Montana, to collaborate in the action and that he decided to accept it. To his friend, the businessman’s son passed on details of the entire layout of the house and the dynamics of the security cameras.
His narrative was that, with the crime completed and unresolved, the car would be sold, his father’s company, a small metallurgical company, could also be sold and they could both buy a farm to grow drugs.
There was even a supposed partnership in which both, the businessman’s son and his friend, would share the “criminal initiative” by 50%, said police chief Filipe Martins Alves Pereira.
During the press conference, the delegate revealed that the businessman’s son’s friend could have been involved in drug trafficking as he found suspicious videos on the seized cell phone.
The girlfriend of the businessman’s son was also heard and confirmed the veracity of the recording, written by the friend of the main suspect in planning the crime. In the recording, which is short, drugs appear being weighed on a precision scale.
Amid contradictory testimony from the main suspect, the Civil Police agent who spoke to him said that he was surprised by the ‘scare’ that the 18-year-old had when he was told that his mother was alive.
The Civil Police confirmed that the couple did not have life insurance, property insurance, company insurance, or anything other than what could be offered, as was the case, by the main suspect.
After being unmasked, the son did not cry and did not even show any reaction to the loss of his father. During interrogation, he said he would not do that again, indicating that in theory he might be sorry.
The police investigation leading the case should be closed within 30 days, investigators estimate. Something that caught attention throughout the process, according to the delegate leading the investigation, is that the son confirmed that he carried out ‘cyber maneuvers’ to hinder the investigation.
