An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.4 mR occurred in Campo Formoso, in the center-north of Bahia, on Thursday afternoon (1st), at 1:33 pm (Brasília time). The earthquake was recorded by the Brazilian Seismographic Network (RSBR) stations and analyzed by the UFRN Seismological Laboratory (LABSIS). For now, there are no reports that residents in the region felt the earthquake.

Last month, Bahia recorded 16 earthquakes, according to a survey by LABSIS/UFRN. The largest magnitude event (2.5 mR) occurred on the state’s coast, on January 25th.

Low magnitude tremors are relatively common in Brazil, especially in the northeast region. In general, these earthquakes are caused by geological pressures moving small fractures in the Earth’s crust.
