Deputy states that an attempt to run for office is a “turned page”; This is the 2nd time he has given up running for office
Federal deputy Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) declared this Friday (2.Feb.2024) that the “subject” São Paulo City Hall is “closed”. The congressman tried to run for office, but announced that he withdrew from the race so as not to be “counter” to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
“Page turned”stated in his https://twitter.com/rsallesmma/status/1753415793214099552 (ex-Twitter). He said he intends “focus on relevant issues in Brazil, which, by the way, is not going well at all”. According to the former Minister of the Environment of the Bolsonaro government, “there is a lot to do to try to prevent the PT from destroying” the country.
To the Power360, Salles said he made the decision after the former president signaled that he would support the re-election of Ricardo Nunes (MDB), current mayor of the capital of São Paulo. It is the 2nd time that Salles has given up running for office.
In December 2023, Bolsonaro had instructed Salles not to leave the PL to run for mayor of the capital of São Paulo for another party. He even tried to make his name viable as a Bolsonarist candidate, but he did not have the support of the party.
