According to preliminary information, the victim’s daughter began to suspect that something was happening after the elderly woman became ill at least three times. Last Tuesday night, the elderly woman was hospitalized, and the doctor told the family that she had been drugged. At that moment, the son-in-law became suspicious of the maid.

— On the 31st, he decided to check if something had been stolen from the house. When looking at the drawer where the money from a trip was kept, he noticed that the lock had not been broken, but the money was gone — according to delegate Luciana Ribeiro.

The family was allegedly robbed of US$3,400 and R$5,000. To the police, Marlene confessed to the crime. The case was registered at 12th (Copacabana).

— She gave a statement at police headquarters and confessed to the crime. She said she put two pills in the elderly woman’s coffee and looked for money around the house. She also said that she handed the amount over to a third person. We are still investigating whether he is her partner or not – says the delegate.

The victim was taken to the Medical-Legal Institute (IML), in the Center, to undergo examinations. The result has not yet been released. According to police, she is now at home and lucid.
