Released this Thursday (1/2), the new Fiocruz InfoGripe Bulletin shows the current scenario in some states in the North, Northeast and State of Mato Grosso, which are experiencing an increase due to Covid-19.

The analysis is based on data entered into the Influenza Epidemiological Surveillance Information System (Sivep-Gripe) until January 29th, referring to Epidemiological Week (SE) 4, period from January 21st to 27th, 2024.

Ten states show a sign of SARS increase in long-term trend: Acre (AC), Amap (AP), Amazonas (AM), Mato Grosso (MT), Par (PA), Pernambuco (PE), Piau (PI), Rondnia (RO), Sergipe (SE) and Tocantins (TO ). In Acre, Amap and Rondônia, the evidence is still compatible with oscillation, although the current scenario in the North region requires attention. Among the capitals, eight register an increase in SARS cases: Aracaju (SE), Belm (PA), Cuiab (MT), Macap (AP), Manaus (AM), Porto Velho (RO), Recife (PE) and Rio Branco (B.C).

In Mato Grosso and the North of the country, the increase is concentrated in the age groups of the adult population, with a sign of association with Covid-19 cases during the month of January. The researcher at Fiocruz’s Scientific Computing Program (Procc/Fiocruz) and coordinator of InfoGripe, Marcelo Gomes, highlights that this region had not yet been affected by the growth observed during the end of the second half of 2023 in the country. “The increase started in the Center-South and affected the Northeast at the end of last year, reaching the North only now at the turn of the year”, observed Gomes.

Number of covid-19 cases almost fivefold in MT compared to December

In relation SARS by Covid-19, the study points to growth in Amap, Mato Grosso, Par, Pernambuco, Piau, Sergipe and Tocantins. In Alagoas and Rio Grande do Norte, there is an interruption in the growth trend. In the Federal District and Gois, the Bulletin found a slight recent increase restricted to the population over 65 years of age. A mortality of SRAG continues to remain significantly higher in the elderly, with Covid-19 predominating.

Incidence and Mortality

In the last eight weeks, the incidence and mortality of SARS has maintained the typical pattern of greatest impact among young children and the elderly. Also in cases of SARS due to Covid-19, the scenario with the greatest impact on children up to two years of age and the population over 65 years of age remains.

“While the incidence of SARS has a higher impact on children up to two years of age, in terms of mortality we have the opposite, with the population over 65 years of age being the most impacted. Other respiratory viruses resulting from SARS in young children are Respiratory Syncytial Virus [VSR] and rhinovirus. In the national aggregate, influenza remains significantly low. The RSV shows signs of a possible increase in some parts of the country”, informs the InfoGripe coordinator.

In the last four epidemiological weeks, the prevalence among cases with a positive result for respiratory viruses was 5.7% for influenza A; 0.4% for influenza B; 10.2% for RSV; It is 66% for Sars-CoV-2 (Covid-19).

Between the bits, the presence of these same viruses among those positive was 5% for influenza A; 0% for influenza B; 1.9% for RSV; It is 89.9% for Sars-CoV-2 (Covid-19).

Cases and deaths due to SARS in the country

Regarding the epidemiological year 2024, notifications have already been made 4,240 cases of SARS, with 1,479 (34.9%) having a positive laboratory result for a respiratory virus, 1,710 (40.3%) negative and at least 752 (17.7%) awaiting laboratory results. Positivity data for recent weeks is subject to major changes in subsequent updates due to the flow of case notification and insertion of the associated laboratory result.

were registered 276 bits, rrelating to the 2024 SARS cases, 159 (57.6%) with a positive laboratory result for a respiratory virus, 94 (34.1%) negative and at least 13 (4.7%) awaiting laboratory results. (Source: Fiocruz)
