O number of deaths in confrontations with the police increased by 225% in Roraima last year, compared to 2022, according to a survey by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), to which the TV Globo had access. As a result, the state had the greater growth among the federation units (see data by state below).

Between January and December 2023, there were 13 deaths in clashes in Roraima, nine more than recorded in the same period of the previous year, according to the survey.

g1 contacted the government of Roraima about the matter and is awaiting feedback.

Roraima, Mato Grosso do Sul and Mato Grosso were the states with the higher growth rates, respectively. However, these three states are not necessarily those with the most deaths in confrontations with police, but those that had the biggest variation from 2022 to 2023.

Bahia was the federation unit with the most deaths in clashes last year: 1,689, a number 15.05% higher than that recorded in 2022. The state faced a wave of violence, related to the actions of criminal groups.

At the top of the national ranking are also the states of Rio de Janeiro, with 869 deaths in 2023 and Pará, with 529. The state with the lowest number of deaths in clashes was Rondônia, in the north of the country, which recorded just 8.

The man was responsible for the crimes of theft, robbery, threats, breach of protective measures, drug possession, drug trafficking, torture, kidnapping, false imprisonment and several qualified homicides.

On Tuesday (30), the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, sent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva a proposal to make the use of body cameras mandatory by all police forces, including the military police, which are under the command of governors, and municipal guards, linked to city halls. For Dino, the adoption of cameras has the potential to generate a drop in police lethality in the country.
