AL records increase in murders, says Ministry of Justice


The Ministry of Justice released, this Wednesday, the 31st, a balance of public security actions. Alongside President Lula, Minister Flávio Dino celebrated the reduction in the country’s main crime rates.

The reduction in intentional lethal violent crimes (CVLIs) was consolidated with a drop of 4.17% compared to 2022, including homicide, robbery, bodily injury followed by death and feminicide.

Thefts from vehicles, cargo and financial institutions also registered a drop: 9.78%; 11.06% and 40.91%, respectively.

Five states in the country, however, registered an increase in the number of murders, contrary to the national trend. Among the states, there is Alagoas, with an increase of 2.2% compared to the previous year.

In total, Brazil recorded 40,464 intentional homicides (with intent to kill), feminicides, robberies and bodily injuries followed by death, compared to 42,190 in 2022, which represents a reduction of 4%.

Amapá (45.5%), Rio de Janeiro (6.1%), Pernambuco (5.3%), Alagoas (2.2%) and Maranhão (1.8%) had an increase in violent deaths.

Sergipe was the state with the biggest reduction: 22.9%.

Theft from financial institutions: reduction of 40.91% between 2022 and 2023 (from 220 to 130)

Cargo theft: reduction of 11.06% between 2022 and 2023 (from 13,101 to 11,652)

Seizure of illegal weapons by federal agencies: increase of 25.5% between 2022 and 2023 (from 8,502 to 10,672)

Registration of new weapons: 79% reduction between 2022 and 2023 (from 135,915 to 29,344)

Concession to carry weapons: 56% reduction between 2022 and 2023 (from 5,675 to 2,469)
