With 5,377 confirmed cases and 10 deaths in January, Covid-19 is once again causing concern in Mato Grosso.
The data was released by the Mato Grosso Health Department and represents a 345% increase in confirmed cases compared to the month of December 2023, when records of the virus totaled 1,206 cases.
According to the state epidemiological panel, the number of people hospitalized due to contamination by the virus reaches 59 people.
The municipalities with the highest incidence of virus contamination are Lucas do Rio Verde, with 441 confirmed cases, followed by Sinop (398), Tangará da Serra (358), Cuiabá (355) and Cáceres (294).
In the second half of January, four cases of the new sub-variant of Covid, JN 2.5, were identified in Mato Grosso.
The new strain is a variant of omicron and the record carried out by the State Health Department was classified as the first case of the sub-variant in Brazil.
