Rio – After the storm that left the city of Rio in Stage 3 attention this Wednesday (31st), the first week of February should see more rain starting this Thursday (1st). The forecast is that minimum temperatures will vary between 22ºC and 19ºC.

Due to heavy rain, the Municipal Civil Defense received 21 calls until 8pm this Wednesday (31). None of them seriously. The largest accumulations of rain occurred in Grande Méier, Ilha do Governador and Grajaú. During the morning, there was still a pocket of water on the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas cycle path, close to the Lagoa helipad, in the South Zone.

Until early morning, the municipality remains in stage 2 due to the risk of rain. During this Thursday (1st) the weather is expected to remain unstable with the possibility of isolated rain showers from the afternoon onwards and strong winds of up to 76 km/h. Temperatures will be a minimum of 20ºC and a maximum of 33ºC.

This Friday (2), the forecast is for rain at any time of the day with light to moderate winds. While temperatures should remain stable. On Saturday (3) and Sunday (4) the day can be a little hotter with a maximum between 37ºC and 36ºC while the minimum varies between 19ºC and 21ºC, respectively, with rain from the afternoon and evening.

Niterói

In Niterói, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio, two houses collapsed due to the rain. According to the city council, the highest rainfall recorded in 1 hour was 38.4mm in Bonfim, in Caramujo with 32.8mm, in Maria Paula and Tenente Jardim with 32.6mm and Sapê with 30.4mm.

To date, four incidents have been recorded, all without victims, including landslides, collapses and falling trees. There were no sirens activated. Flooding was also recorded in Alameda, close to Hospital Getulinho.

In addition to Civil Defense, teams from the Secretariat of Conservation and Public Services (Seconser), the Niterói Cleaning Company, Nittrans, Social Assistance and Regional Administrations are working in the city with the aim of minimizing the impacts caused by the rains.

Regarding the closure of two houses on Travessa São José, Niterói City Hall’s Civil Defense is working on site. There are no records of deaths or injuries. Homeless families are being served by teams from the Municipal Department of Social Assistance and Solidarity Economy.
