One newborn baby who still had the umbilical cord, was found abandoned on a plot of land in the Areeiro neighborhood, in Camaragibe, in the Metropolitan Region of Recife. He was found in the early hours of this Wednesday (31) by three young people who were passing by the place.
The young people activated the Municipal Guard and the Guardianship Council to report the case. Initially, the newborn was sent to Hospital Aristeu Chaves, in the same municipality, and then transferred to Hospital Barão de Lucena, in the Iputinga neighborhood, in Recife.
The hospital unit said it could not provide details about the baby’s health status, but stated that a team from the Camaragibe Guardianship Council left the scene late this Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Guardianship Council, the person responsible for abandoning the baby would be a 17-year-old girl who claims she made the decision out of fear of her family’s rejection.
According to Article 134 of the Penal Code, a person who exposes or abandons a newborn to hide their own dishonor may serve a sentence of six months to two years in prison.
O Pernambuco Diary contacted the Civil Police, but did not receive a response until the publication of this article.
