Committed to promoting, through innovation and technology, safe and efficient care in promoting health, the Hemodynamics team of Campina Grande, which works at the Dom Luiz Gonzaga Fernandes Emergency and Trauma Hospital – a unit of the health network of the Government of Paraíba managed by the Fundação Paraibana de Gestão em Saúde (PB Saúde) – carried out an unprecedented procedure to treat an occlusion in the chronic abdominal aorta. This is a serious case, caused by an arteriosclerotic disease, which is the clogging of the arteries and can affect the patient’s entire body.
The patient from Campina Grande, 62 years old, had been experiencing a lot of pain in her legs and had difficulty walking. She underwent tests, thinking she had problems with her spine, but ended up discovering an obstruction in her aorta.
Surgery to remedy the problem was carried out successfully, using vascular techniques. An angioplasty was performed with implantation of a covered stent. Even though it is a highly complex procedure, it was performed without any cuts and in a minimally invasive way due to the advanced techniques that were used.
According to vascular and endovascular surgeon Willamax Oliveira, responsible for the procedure, angioplasty (with stent implantation) was crucial to the patient’s life. “She arrived here in pain when taking short walks, which made it impossible for her to carry out routine, everyday activities. She was unable to do basic things and this was causing serious complications for her,” said the surgeon.
Still according to doctor Willamax de Oliveira, the patient evolved well after the procedure and, after 15 days, she no longer has symptoms or complaints and carries out her daily activities normally.
According to the doctor, the Hemodynamics service in Paraíba serves as a model for other states, and has brought a social benefit to the population. Because it offers treatment for highly complex diseases completely free of charge.
Trauma-CG Hemodynamics currently has 4 URPA beds (Post-Anesthetic Recovery Unit), 10 infirmary beds and 10 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, for post-surgical care for patients who undergo a procedure in the hemodynamics.
The hemodynamic service internalized by the Government of Paraíba, as part of the Coração Paraibano Program, has enabled a rapid assistance response for patients from the Coast to the Sertão of Paraíba in the treatment of cardiological emergencies, as well as in the vascular and endovascular area.
How to access– To have access to exams and procedures at the Hemodynamics of the Campina Grande Trauma Hospital, users need to be regulated, whether urgent or elective, that is, the patient needs to be admitted to a health unit in their municipality and the regulation makes contact to analyze the profile and forward it accordingly.
