The Dr. Clementino Fraga Infectious Diseases Complex – a unit belonging to the health network of the Government of Paraíba – held, this Tuesday (30), the 4th Multidisciplinary Seminar on Leprosy. The event, which is part of the Purple January actions, the month to combat the disease, aims to deepen the debate about the challenges in multidisciplinary patient care and brought together representatives of Epidemiological Surveillance from municipalities belonging to the first macro-region.
The epidemiology coordinator at Baía da Traição, Lais Fernandes, explained the importance of continuing education for health professionals. “These meetings provide us with the exchange of experiences necessary to improve patient care. It is through these conversations that we are able to identify where we need to improve so that we can more quickly detect cases of diseases such as leprosy,” she said.
On the occasion, there were lectures on topics focused on the prevention, diagnosis and clinical management of leprosy, such as Nursing Consultation in Leprosy: potentialities and challenges of care; Diagnosis and clinical management of Leprosy and Reactive Episodes; The importance of Disability Prevention in leprosy as an Inducer of conduct; and Epidemiological scenario of Leprosy in Paraíba.
Clementino Fraga is the state reference in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, however the treatment diagnosis is generally made in basic health units, which only refer more complex cases to the hospital. Participating in the event were professionals from the cities of Bayeux, Cruz do Espírito Santo, Conde, Alhandra, Baia da Traição, Santa Rita, Cabedelo, Rio Tinto, Gurinhem and Mamanguape, as well as students from the Federal University of Paraíba.
