The State Government of MS announced the construction of the Integrated Care Center for Children and Adolescents (CAI) in 2024. The announcement comes after the signing, on the 25th, of the document that transferred the land where the center should be built from the Union to the State Government. The CAI has been an intention of the MS Court of Justice for some time, but since last year it has been bringing together partners and encouraging those responsible more vehemently to make efforts to achieve it.

The Children and Youth Coordination (CIJ) of the TJMS since 2013, then under the coordination of Desa. Maria Isabel de Matos Rocha, debates the need to create a place for integrated care for children and adolescents who are victims of violence. The current person responsible for said coordination, Desa. Elizabete Anache has remained in this fight since taking it on, having even participated in a public hearing on the topic at the Campo Grande City Council in May 2019.

In one of its most recent efforts to make the Integrated Service Center a reality, the TJMS, through the CIJ, promoted a meeting to discuss its creation in Campo Grande. The event was attended by representatives from various institutions involved in the project. At its opening, Desa. Elizabete Anache highlighted the need to talk more openly and frequently about violence, of all types, suffered by children and adolescents.

Throughout the event, the need for humanized and integrated care for victims and the priority of avoiding revictimization was emphasized, as children and adolescents have to travel to several locations to report the violence they suffered several times. Throughout the work carried out, the responsibilities of each institution after the implementation of the CAI and the importance of working in an integrated manner were discussed.

Now, the State Government has announced that the Child and Adolescent Care Center will be built in Campo Grande, along similar lines to the Casa da Mulher Brasileira, including in an area close to it in Jardim Imá. The government also announced the use of resources in the order of R$7 million for the construction project, which has already completed its projects.

“The importance of the location where the Integrated Service Center will operate is precisely the existence of a reference point so that all those families, and situations in which we have children and adolescents who are victims of violence, can go and receive full assistance. We found it very easy to have this land close to Casa da Mulher, it makes it easier for the population who will use it”, he explained.

The space will have a Civil Police station, rooms for the Military Police, Institute of Medicine and Forensic Dentistry, psychologists, toy library and other spaces. The partnership was signed with the aim of combating violence against children in Mato Grosso do Sul, and the center will work in coordination with the municipality, Public Defender’s Office, Public Ministry, Judiciary and Civil Police, offering screening, psychosocial care, registration of occurrence, forensic examinations and referral to necessary services.

An important step is being taken to combat violence against children in MS. The construction of this center represents a significant advance in protecting the rights of children and adolescents, providing a safe and welcoming environment, where they can report the violence they have suffered and receive the support necessary for their recovery. The initiative demonstrates the commitment of TJMS and other authorities involved in ensuring humanized and articulated care, promoting justice for this vulnerable part of the population.
