Taylor Swift fan killed in robbery in Copacabana was stabbed 23 times, report concludes | Police Cases

The autopsy report carried out by the Civil Police of Rio indicates that the student Gabriel Mongenot Santana Milhomem Santos, aged 25, was stabbed 23 times until he died, on Copacabana Beach, in the South Zone of Rio. The young man came to the city to watch the concert by singer Taylor Swift, of whom he was a fan. One of the suspects of murdering the boy is Jonathan Batista Barbosa, 36 years old, arrested last Sunday.

Two days earlier, on Friday, after robbing a store in the neighborhood. During a custody hearing on Saturday, judge Priscilla Macuco Ferreira decided on provisional release and banned his presence in the store, where she stole chocolates. He should also keep his distance from witnesses. However, 12 hours after the release permit, he was in the region, approximately 250 meters from the commercial establishment, and four minutes walk from where he stabbed Gabriel Mongenot Santana Milhomem Santos, aged 25, to death.

According to the Civil Police, Gabriel was with five other friends, all tourists, sitting on the sands of Copacabana Beach, contemplating the sea, when two robbers, known as homeless people, approached. Anderson Henriques Brandão, was arrested on Sunday morning and confessed to having participated in the crime. He has already been approached by the police 56 times and has 14 criminal records. Jonathan, arrested in the afternoon, was recognized by witnesses as the author of the stabbings. There are six criminal records against him for homicide, robbery, possession of a firearm, bodily harm, theft and receiving possession. The case is being investigated by the 13th DP, in Ipanema.

Store robbery

On Friday, Jonathan was arrested red-handed after robbing a sweets store on Avenida Nossa Senhora de Copacabana, one of the main ones in the region. He had taken boxes of chocolates. On Saturday, during the custody hearing, the judge decided on provisional release and applied precautionary measures against him, such as prohibiting him from returning to the establishment and approaching witnesses.

Twelve hours after these decisions, the suspect returned to Copacabana, and allegedly committed Gabriel’s murder, on Rua Figueiredo de Magalhães, 250 meters away from the store.

Murder

In testimony, one of the victims said that Gabriel was the only one who slept, waking up with a fright when approached. He reacted, being stabbed in the chest. The same witness reported to investigators that the criminals were upset and kicked them all the time. They shouted that if anyone stood up, they would kill anyone who dared to disobey them. The knife used was a kitchen knife, but with a large blade. The suspects took a vehicle key and two cell phones.

The victim, a native of Mato Grosso do Sul, was stabbed to death around 3am on Sunday by two men during a robbery on Copacabana Beach, in the South Zone of Rio. He lived in Minas Gerais, where he was studying space engineering, and was in Rio to watch the singer’s show.
