A woman, identified as Ida Terezinha Araújo Barbosa, aged 67, was found dead during the flood in Eldorado do Sul, in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, this Monday (20).
Firefighters responded to the call to rescue Ida at her home on Avenida Nestor Jardim Filho, in the Medianeira neighborhood, which was flooded. Unfortunately, she was found lying inside the property, with her face submerged, by her son.
Despite firefighters’ efforts to remove her from the water and try to revive her, she had already died when found.
The exact cause of death will be confirmed after an autopsy by the General Institute of Expertise (IGP), but firefighters suspect drowning. RS Civil Defense has not yet officially confirmed the death, but declared that three people lost their lives due to the rains in the state since the weekend.
Around 2,400 people are homeless in Eldorado do Sul. According to the municipality’s Civil Defense, 2,000 are homeless and 400 are homeless.
