Wiris Gustavo de Oliveira, 23 years old, was the driver of one of the vehicles. He died at the scene. The other victim who died is Maria Bernardete de Oliveira Figueira, aged 64, who was the passenger in the other car.
The two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when they crashed. The cause was not disclosed.
In addition to the two dead, the accident also left three injured – including an 8-year-old child in serious condition –, who were rescued by Samu and taken to hospitals in the region.
Wiris played for Fluminense’s under-23s in 2021 and 2022. He even trained against the club’s professionals during the period.
The midfielder was signed by Fluminense in February 2021, after playing for Loko Plovdiv, in Bulgaria. Wiris played 14 games for the club’s under-23 team – which was disbanded this year.
On social media, Fluminense mourned the player’s death.
“We received with great pain the news of the death of midfielder Wiris, who played for our under-23 team between 2021 and 2022. We wish his family and friends a lot of strength at such a difficult time.”
In contact with the gethe president of the Paracatu Deliberative Council, Raniere Lhamas, commented that Wiris was one of the leaders of the squad and had a good relationship with all the players.
