BR-423 is a heavily trafficked highway that borders the state of Pernambuco and cuts through a large part of the Alagoas hinterland. The highway ends at the Xingó Hydroelectric Plant, located on the São Francisco River, on the border of Alagoas and Sergipe, close to Piranhas. The Xingó Complex is an attraction for those who visit the region, due to the famous canyons, which are very popular with tourists who visit the place.
