247 – Forty-three mayors affiliated with the PDT left the party after a meeting this Tuesday (14) with senator Cid Gomes (CE) in Fortaleza (CE), according to information published by the newspaper Diario do Nordeste. Three heads of municipal executives decided to continue with the acronym. The PDT’s alignment with governor Elmano de Freitas (PT) and possible alliances with the Workers’ Party in the 2024 municipal elections is the main reason for internal differences within the PDT party. Ceará has 184 cities.
Cid defends maintaining the alliance with the governor. The wing linked to minister Ciro Gomes and André Figueiredo, national president of the party, want the party to maintain an independent stance towards the PT government. Nationally, the two parties are allies – the party’s licensed president, Carlos Lupi, is Minister of Social Security in President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s government.
The call for the meeting for this Tuesday (14) was a response from Cid last Thursday, the 9th, after being removed from the leadership of the Ceará PDT directory by the party’s national leadership, under the command of André Figueiredo. Last Friday (10), the Ceará Court suspended the intervention of the PDT national command in the state directory, in a new chapter of the internal dispute between the brothers Cid and Ciro Gomes. The judge accepted the argument that the intervention contravened the principles of contradictory and broad defense.
